Richard R. “Dick” Riney

Richard R. “Dick” Riney, 88, formerly of 2426 Kentucky Road and Payson, died on Thursday, October 23, 2014, in the Illinois Veteran’s Home where he and his wife have lived since 2009.
He was born on July 20, 1926, in St. Marys, MO, son of Variece and Ann Helena Layton. He married Virginia “Ginny” Thayer on April 26, 1947, in Sereno, MO.
Dick was a member of the All Faith Chapel at the Illinois Veteran’s Home and formerly a member of St. Peter’s and St. Anthony’s. He was employed by the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. in Herculaneum, MO, and then worked for Harris Broadcasting in Quincy for 17 years. After retiring, he delivered boats for Bayview Marine and then delivered cars for Shottenkirk’s for many years. Dick served his country in the Army during WWII and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Payson and proudly wore his WWII Veteran’s hat every day. He was an avid videographer and loved motorcycles, hunting, planes, and boats and passed that love on to his boys. He and Ginny took numerous trips on his Gold Wing motorcycle.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Roger (Cheryl) Riney of Quincy, Richard “Rick” (Donna) Riney of Elon, NC, and Marc Riney of Rogers, AR; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Trysha) Riney of Racine, WI, Jennifer White of Naperville, Paul Riney of Greensboro, NC, Lauren Riney and her fiance, Max Czernin of Cincinatti, OH, Taylor, Madison, and Savanna Riney of Rogers, AR; six great grandchildren, Lexi, Blake, Leigha, and Jacob Riney of Quincy and Mady and Amelia White of Naperville; three step grandchildren, Greta (Jered), Benjamin (April) Truebe, and Adam (Annie) Truebe, and five step great grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
VISITATION: Will be held on Monday, October 27, from 5 to 7 pm at the All Faith Chapel at the Illinois Veteran’s Home.
FUNERAL: Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 28, at 9:30 am at the All Faith Chapel at the Illinois Veteran’s Home, by Rev. Donald Blickhan. Interment with military honors will be at Sunset Cemetery.
