Richard Joseph Terwelp

Richard Joseph Terwelp, age 81, of 2101 Kochs Lane, Quincy, died on Friday, December 2, 2011 in Sunset Home. He was born on October 21, 1930 in Quincy, the son of Joseph Frank & Agnes (Wensing) Terwelp. He married Sandra Dopheide August 29, 1964 in St. Francis Catholic Church. She survives.

Richard had worked at Apex Coil and Transformer and then at Motorola. Richard later worked in maintenance, at Quincy Physicians and Surgeons Clinic, Quincy Medical Group and later Quincy Comfort Inn for thirteen years.

He served in the Korean War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He dearly loved and was a life-long member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Richard loved his home garden.

Richard is survived by:
SIX CHILDREN: Albert J. Terwelp and his wife Sarah of Overbrook, KC; Joseph R. Terwelp and his wife Abigail of Mukilteo, WA; Mark C. Terwelp and his wife Johnna of Quincy; Christina Speer and her husband David of LaGrange, MO; Kevin M. Terwelp of Dixon, IL and Keith M. Terwelp and his wife, Danielle, of Quincy.
FIVE GRANDCHILDREN: Kyle Terwelp, Emily Terwelp, Benjamin Terwelp, Ella Terwelp and Danielle Terwelp.
Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wilma Ward.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church by Fr. Don Blaeser, OFM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Donor’s Choice.
