Richard John Kroner

Richard John Kroner was born in Quincy on November 10, 1935 and died in Quincy on February 25, 2015, but in between was a life well-loved and lived. He was the son of John & Agnes (Weitholder) Kroner. Dick is survived by his wife and sweetheart Joyce Neuman, who he married on June 14, 1958 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He graduated from Quincy High School in 1953 and went forward like his brother, Merle, and later his grandson, Scott, to proudly serve as a U.S. Marine. Semper Fi.

As a dedicated family man, he endured over 35 Quincy winters delivering mail for the US Post Office.

Favorite pastimes include family, traveling both nationally and internationally, reading, eating a good meal, family camping trips and home renovations. He liked to take the road less traveled and he never stopped exploring. He was the original tree-hugger and passed these traditions on to his family.

Left to carry on his legacy and tell his stories are his wife Joyce, daughters Julie (Chris) Tong, Patty (Terry) Tournear, Connie (Steve) Esslinger and son Richard (Creena) Kroner; grandchildren Jessica (Geoff) Bentele-Staten, Nathaniel Tong, Raleigh (Kylene) Shade, Chase Shade, Claire & Joseph Esslinger, Scott, Cassie, Kayla, Rebecca Kroner; great-grand-daughter Gianna Staten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Sylvia Wellman & Marjean Entrup, and a brother Merle. Also departed before him was a bevy of dogs, mostly schnauzers.

A celebration of Richard Kroner’s life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the National Park Foundation or to Unity Point Hospice.

    Connie and family,
My heart goes out to all of you. I send sympathy and prayers for healing of your broken hearts. May your fond memories uplift your spirits to carry you through this difficult time. The obituary makes me smile…the reflection of his passions describes his life of contentment and happiness…and what more can we hope for in our lives. I regret that I will be unable to share in his celebration of life with you, and may you continue to “burst with pride” as you remember your dad.
    Deepest Sympathy,
    Marlene Hellhake
