Richard John Altgilbers, Sr.

Richard John Altgilbers, Sr., age 85, of 1242 Vermont, Quincy, died on Thursday, August 1, 2013 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on March 31, 1928 in Quincy, a son of Myron J. & Catherine (Williams) Altgilbers. He first married Elizabeth Joann Wear . He later married Leona Hively Dopheide on November 26, 1988. She survives.

Mr. Altgilbers worked as a tool & die maker at Packaging Corporation and then Titan Wheel until his retirement on July 14, 1995. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII and thoroughly enjoyed being part of a Great River Honor Flight.

He enjoyed playing bingo, woodworking crafts and going to the casino. He was a member of the Eagles Club, VFW and North Side Boat Club.

In addition to his wife, Leona, he is survived by:
THREE SONS by his previous wife: Rocky Altgilbers and his wife Tracey, Rodney Altgilbers and his wife Sheila and Richard Altgilbers, Jr.
A STEP-SON, Robert Burgtorf and his wife Cheryl
THREE STEP-DAUGHTERS, Carol Lindsey and her husband Tim, Sharon Cheney and her companion Phil Conner, and Kim Winking and her companion Jim Cunningham
FOUR SISTERS, Shirley Thornton, Millie Bock, Barb Harsell and Starley Plantage and her husband Art.
A very special family friend: Barb Yuchs, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a son Kevin Altgilbers, a step-daughter: Janet Jackson, four sisters: Rosemary Kost, Vera Maloney, Wilma Gray, and Katie Connors; and three brothers: Romey, Myron and Don Altgilbers.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Sunset Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or to the Great River Honor Flight.
