Richard J. Koetters
Richard J. Koetters, age 73, of 2214 Spring St., died on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 6:30 AM in his home. He was born on February 24, 1941 in Quincy the son of Richard J. & Beulah (Gredell) Koetters, Sr. Due to the early death of his mother, Richard was raised by his father’s second wife, Genevieve Thompson. He married Mary Wasson on December 28, 1963 in St. Francis Catholic Church. She survives.
Mr. Koetters was a Union Carpenter for Waterkotte Construction for many years. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Richard was with the Army National Guard 126th Service and Supply Company out of Quincy when he was called to active duty in 1968. Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid fan of the Chicago CUBS, BEARS and Notre Dame football. His greatest love was time spent with family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is also survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Kevin Koetters and his wife Christina, Kelly L. Koetters and her significant other Tim Parker; and Krista Veith and her significant other Trent Mountain.
NINE GRANDCHILDREN: Andrew, Mattieu, & Maximilian Koetters; Evan Peters, Sam Doellman and Sydney Doellman, Kenna, Mallory and Lydia Veith.
ONE BROTHER: James J. Koetters and his wife Carolyn
ONE SISTER: Joan Keller and her husband George
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Thomas Koetters and John Koetters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Private burial at a later date at Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis School or to the Quincy Notre Dame Choral Department. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
