I was in the same guard unit as Dirk. He was a great guy that always had a smile on his face. He was full of jokes all the time and kept everyone in good spirits and laughing during drill weekend and annual training. A good guy gone too soon. May peace be with his family.
Gail & Anne, my thoughts and prayers are with you both as well as your family!

I’m still in shock, doesn’t seem real. I will miss his smile and his friendship. I never knew him to be mad or say anything bad against anyone. Our world gets a little darker without Dirk in it.

We will never forget our times with Dirk. One of our fondest memories is when Dirk and our nephew Mike came to Eugene OR to see us. Mike carried on and Dirk checked his bag. New boxers from Walmart and borrowed clothes until his suitcase was delivered to the house. Many other fond memories. Condolences to the family and friends. RIP Dirk.
