Richard C. Halle

Richard C. Halle of the Illinois Veteran’s Home, formerly of 1513 Chestnut St., passed from this life and went to be with his Lord & Saviour on October 30, 2013 at the Home. Born August 17, 1929 in Quincy, he was a son of Marvin B. and Catherine A. (Boden) Halle. He married Ruth E. Johnson on December 9, 1978 at First Assembly of God Church, Ewing, MO and they enjoyed thirty-four happy years together. She survives.

Richard attended St. Francis Grade School, Notre Dame High School and was a graduate of Gem City Business College. He was a member of St. Francis Solanus Church, St. Francis Holy Name Society, Secular Franciscans, Knights of Columbus and Sunset Home Auxiliary.

Richard was stationed in Germany while serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was employed by Gardner Denver before entering the service and a short time after, then by the CB&Q and Burlington Northern Railroads for 27 years and retired after 11 years of service at Sunset Home.

While health permitted he enjoyed traveling, bowling, tennis, playing pinochle, watching Cardinal baseball games on TV and most of all spending time with family and friends.

Survivors to mourn his passing include his loving wife, Ruth; a sister, Phyllis Lubbe of Rothschild, WI; three nieces, Karen (Tony) Warner of Quincy, Sharon (Paul) Baxter of New Berlin, WI, Linda (Dale) Stange of West Paducah, KY; four nephews, Kenneth Halle of Quincy, Mike (Julie) Lubbe of Las Vegas, NV, Jeff (Margaret) Lubbe of Mentor, OH, Dave (Lynn) Lubbe of Burlington, NJ; great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces, cousins, and many friends and acquaintances.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert, a brother-in-law, Alan Lubbe and a nephew, Robert L. Halle.

Richard was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Military Funerals Detail. Visitation will be held Monday morning from 9:30 – 11:00 at church. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Parish Center Building Fund or Donor’s Choice. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Phyllis and Ruth, accept our sympathy on the deaths of both Richard and Robert. This certainly must be a very hard time for both of you. We did not know Robert, but we both thought so highly of Richard. He was a great guy and we always enjoyed talking with him and you, Ruth. You can be sure you are both in our thoughts and prayers.
