Rex A. Chandler

Rex A. Chandler, age 63, of Quincy, died of a heart attack in Blessing Hospital at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2014. He was born on August 15, 1951 in Pittsburg, CA, a son of Bob & Joan (Fischer) Chandler.

During his early education he lettered in several sports and graduated from Quincy Senior High School in 1969. He continued his education at Quincy University graduating with a degree in psychology and went to SIU in Carbondale as a pre-med major.

He moved to Southern California in 1977 and established Chandler and Associates which became a prosperous industrial medical consulting business. He met Debra Hull whom he married and she joined his business. They were married several years prior to divorce; yet they maintained a strong friendship. During those years he enjoyed much success, good health and had many friends who he frequently entertained. Rex was a “bigger than life” character that loved being with people and making others laugh. He was a master storyteller with a great sense of humor. Rex was generous, always willing to help others, especially the disadvantaged.

He moved back to Quincy when his health began to decline. Although he often didn’t feel well, he never lost his sense of appreciation for others. He treasured family and friends, and maintained his love for others, most importantly veterans and children. He will be missed by many.

He is survived by two brothers, Brian (Donna) Chandler of Manchester, MO; Bruce (Kari) Chandler of Quincy and a sister Rhonda Kewney of Quincy. He also has many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins all of whom were special to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request his body was donated for scientific purposes to a medical school There will be a Memorial Gathering on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Great River Honor Flight for veteran’s or to the Blessing Hospitality House which provides accommodations for families of pediatric patients who are in Blessing Hospital.

    Rex was a great friend in Jr High School. We had a lot of great memories. Sorry to see him go so young.

    Dear Rhonda, Brian and Bruce,
    We are so sorry to hear about Rex. We met him several times at the Truman Club with your dad. He had a way of making you feel as though you had known him all your life. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
