Reon Altgilbers
Reon Altgilbers, affectionately known to many as “Momma”, of 3730 South 24th, passed away peacefully in her home Friday afternoon after spending the day with those she loved.
Reon, the daughter of Margo Miller and step daughter of Les Miller was born in Quincy on November 13, 1961. She married Donald D. Altgilbers on May 15, 1981 in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. He survives.
Reon loved spending time with her most treasured family and friends. She was actively involved in her daughter’s lives, being a scout leader, a room parent and the organizer of St. Mary Grade School picnic for many years. She later volunteered her time at Blessing Hospital Hospitality House, the Red Cross and the Lutheran Church of St. John.
Reon was a 1980 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School. She was employed at Scholz, Staff and Palmer, the Adams County Probation Department and Blessing Hospital in the Physical Therapy Department for more than 20 years.
Reon was a very organized and detailed person, choosing to add quality to her days. She wrote many hand-written letters and homemade cards to her many friends and family. Her greatest accomplishment was to prepare her family for her victory over cancer.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters: Natalie (Andrew) Meyer of Quincy, Stacey (Matthew) Mc Kinney of Carterville. GRANDCHILDREN: Bryer Mc Kinney and unborn twins: Leo & Lyla Meyer. Her mother: Margo Miller and step-father Les Miller. Maternal grandmother: Alice Martin; Sister: Ren’e (Chuck) Orr, brother: Jim (Dawn) Wand, Father-in-law: Donald H. and step-mother-in-law Kathleen Altgilbers, sister-in-law: Theresa Medlin and her friend Steve Harshman, brother-in-laws: Ronald (Kitty) Altgilbers and Mark Altgilbers, aunts: Linda (Rich) Mettemeyer, Joann (David) Jording. Nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather: George Martin and uncle David Martin.
The family expresses their most sincere appreciation for the health and medical communities in Quincy, St. Louis, MO and Bloomington, Indiana for their care and compassion in treating Reon and the most heartfelt appreciation for the Hospice staff, especially Donna, Molly and Kristie.
A celebration of Reon’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the Lutheran Church of St. John. Don, Natalie, Stacey and family – Reon was truly a caring and loving person. She was so proud of her daughters and the individuals that you have become – and, Don, you were her rock and the love of her life! Her quiet, yet deep passion for life was evident when she flashed that smile and spoke of her family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of sorrow.
