Raymond W. ‘Ray’ Maas, Sr

Raymond W. ‘Ray’ Maas, Sr., age 85, of Liberty, died on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on October 19, 1938 in Quincy, IL, the son of Elmer and Coletta (Wellman) Maas. He married Margaret Kansteiner on January 24, 1959. She survives.

Ray worked for Gardner-Denver of Quincy for 37 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement, he worked for Frese Ornamental Nursery. He also farmed throughout his life.

Ray was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Ray is also survived by:
CHILDREN: Pamela (Jerry) Totsch of Liberty, Peggy Maas of Quincy and Carolyn (Sam) Roberts of Liberty, IL.
GRANDCHILDREN: Sara (Jake) Courtney, Jeremy Totsch, Zachary (Hailey) Roberts, Austin (Courtney) Roberts and Katlyn (Robbie Cain) Roberts.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Aria, Emma, Kara, Jase, Jaxon, JoAnna, Lilly Jean, and Ivy Rose.
SIBLINGS: Florence Smith, Lucille (Fritzie) Nieders, Gerald (Shirley) Maas, Robert (Connie) Maas, Barbara Hilgenbrink, Thomas (Julie) Maas and Elmer (Jeanie) Maas.
Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons: Richard Maas and Raymond Maas, Jr., and siblings: Rosie Benz, Loretta Klauser, Virgil Maas, Clarence Maas, Clara Neisen, Joan Dreyer, and Melvin Maas.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Liberty, IL. Interment in St. Brigid Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 at St. Brigid Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Adams County 4-H Foundation or to the St. Brigid Cemetery. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
