Raymond Rogers, age 94, of Quincy, died on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in St. Vincent Home. He was born on September 25, 1923 in Hannibal, MO the son of Raymond & Gertrude (Pike) Rogers. Ray graduated from McCooey High School in 1942. He married Betty Virginia Gregg on December 31, 1943 in Blessed Sacrament Church in Hannibal, MO and they had 73 years of married life together. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2017.

Ray worked for the CB & Q Railroad before WWII. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He began in the 103rd Infantry where he received the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. He later served as a hospital orderly with the 22nd General Hospital in the American Theater of Operations and with the 194th, the 36th, the 240th and 227th General Hospitals along with the 25th Hospital Train in the European Theater of Operations.

Upon his return from service, Ray graduated from Hannibal LaGrange in 1951 and from Quincy University in 1953. He then began his teaching career at the school in Marblehead, IL. He then taught school in the Payson, Illinois grade school system for 30 years, retiring in 1983.

Ray loved fishing gardening, and walking. Ray also enjoyed pitching horseshoes. Ray was very proud of his participation in one of the Great River Honor Flights.

TWO CHILDREN: Michael R. Rogers and his wife Diane of Quincy and Susan K. Hill and her husband David also of Quincy.
FOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Michelle Pepin; Lindsey Wells and her husband Jarod; Tim Hill and his wife Susan; and Melissa Norton and her husband JRyan.
EIGHT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Devin Rogers, Shane Pepin, Carter Wells, Nolan Wells, Kenny Hill, Lucas Hill, Gwen Norton and Jace Norton

In addition to his wife, Raymond was also preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Pennington.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 9:15 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery by the Illinois National Guard Honor Detail and the American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
