Raymond Hinkamper
Raymond Hinkamper, age 78, of 1853 Maple in Quincy died on August 2, 2017 in his home. He was born on March 23, 1939 in Quincy, IL the son of Russell and Desty (Snyder) Hinkamper. He was a 1957 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Quincy. He married Rosemary M. Hildebrand on September 12, 1959. She survives.
Ray was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church for 58 years where he was a frequent volunteer on parish committees, the St. Francis Sports Association, and the Boy Scouts Troop 22 and Cub Scout Pack 22. He lived his faith through parish life and through his active engagement in the community.
As a Boy Scout leader, Ray was honored with the Silver Beaver award in 1980 by the Saukee Area Council, and with the St. George award in 1982 by the Catholic Committee on Scouting by the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. Both are the highest honors each organization can bestow upon an adult volunteer.
Ray is most known for his involvement in youth sports, especially youth football, in the Quincy Area. He was a founding member of the YMCA Tackle Football League and coached in the league for over 40 years. He has supported football programs at QND, QHS, and QU as a volunteer at various times. In addition, he was a longtime member and chairman of the QND Football Committee, as well as being a board member and former president of the Catholic Youth Organization. He was inducted into the Quincy Notre Dame Hall of Fame, the CYO Hall of Fame, and the Quincy Family YMCA Hall of Fame. In 1983, Ray was named the YMCA volunteer of the year. Based upon his years of community involvement, the Quincy Exchange Club awarded him the Golden Deeds award in 1999.
He was a charter member for the Blackhawk Chapter of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. At various times during his 55 years in RSES, he served as the Illinois State President, an International Deputy Director, and an officer of the Blackhawk Chapter. In 1999, he received the RSES Illinois State Association “Man of the Year” award.
Raymond was also a member of the St. Francis Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He was the founder and president of Raymond R. Hinkamper Service Company, a local refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning contractor.
In addition to his wife, Rosemary, Ray is also survived by: FIVE CHILDREN: Randall Hinkamper and his wife, Shelly, of Quincy; Ricky Hinkamper and his wife Monica of Quincy, Richard Hinkamper of Quincy; Rhonda Jensen and her husband, Fred, of Johnston, IA; and Roy Hinkamper and his wife Allison of High Ridge, MO. BROTHER: Ronald Hinkamper and his wife Linda.
Numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a son Robert Hinkamper and a brother Rodney Hinkamper.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Internment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the QND Foundation, St. Francis School, or to Boy Scout Troop 22 at St. Francis. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is handling the arrangements

So many years that I have known Ray’s family, his mom and dad and brothers all went to school at St. Rose. As a boy serving for Msgr. Fox and so many good years there as he told me last St. Patrick’s day dinner at St. Rose. He was a great guy and had great stories we shared, they bought their groceries from my family many years back. I thank the family for sharing him with us, what a guy. I will have a mass said at St. Rose for the repose of his soul.

I was in Colorado when I heard the news of Ray’s passing. Back in the fall of 1983, before school had even started, Ray was the first person I met at QND. He was at school early one morning and came up to me to introduce himself and meet me. He was one of the most influential people I have ever met. He loved all of you more than anything else. I will pray that GOD gives you the strength you will need to get through the tough times ahead, but also that HE will fill your hearts and memories with only the great memories you shared with your husband and dad.

Ray had an intregal part In my adolescents involving football and my goals in life. He believed in every young man and tried to find the right words to encourage each and every one of us. I will never forget ray sitting on that chair st practice not the colorful hat he wore st every game. Thank you Ray for being the person you were. The measure of a man is the family he leaves behind. Ray was a tremendous success by that measure, not only with his own family but also with his boy scouts and youth football players. A wonderful and kind man.
