Raymond G. Vogel
Raymond G. Vogel age 92, of 1707 North 12th Street died on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Illinois Veteran’s Home. Raymond was born August 24, 1922 in Melrose Twp., IL. He first married Lucille Wellman on May 22, 1952 in Galesburg. IL, she preceded him in death February 23, 1989. He later married Geneva (Heydeman) Nichols on Sept. 20, 1990 in East Moline, IL and she survives.
Raymond was a truck driver for Sears-Roebuck and Burlington Truck Lines prior to his retirement. He served as a Surgical Tech in the U.S. Army stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He was of the Catholic faith.
Raymond was a member of the American Legion. He was a talented musician who performed country music singing and playing the guitar with his brothers as a young man. For several years he wintered in Arizona, and was known for performing at retirement parks and residences there.
Survivors also include, two nephews, Donald Vogel and his wife Mazie of Canton, MO and Gerald Vogel and his wife Patricia of Quincy; two step-sons, Alan Nichols and David Nichols both of Moline, IL; a step-daughter, Barbara Nichols of California; a brother, James Vogel of Quincy; a sister, Loretta Garnett of Colorado; a niece by marriage, Shirley Vogel of Quincy; and many other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew Ronald Vogel; brothers, Frank, Herbert and Virgil Vogel and a sister, Cecilia Simonson.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Quincy Memorial Park by Rev. Donald Blickhan. There is no visitation, but family and friends are invited to the graveside services. Military honors will be conducted by the Illinois National Guard Burial Detail and the American Legion Post #37. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veteran’s Home, Markword II. Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
