Ranny Gene “Jabo” Gholston

Ranny Gene Gholston, ‘Jabo’, age 55, of Quincy, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 in Blessing Hospital. Ranny was born on March 15, 1967 in Denver, Colorado. He married Debra Watts and they spent thirty-two years of their life together.

Ranny’s trade for many years was a welder in the Quincy area. Everyone knew him for riding his bicycle around town and always stopping to give a helping hand. He was the ‘superman’ to all the members of his family. One of his greatest joys was being a papa to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Watts.
He is also survived by his children: Ashley Steadman (Raymond); Daniel Brilley V, (Shannon), and Angel Miranda (Andy Wemhoener).
Grandchildren: Alexis, E.J., Mak, Kassidy, Elijah, Gabriel, and Carter.
Five siblings Randell Durk (Ella), Phillip Gholston (Leslie), Malena Jones, Chandra “Bridgette” Gholston and Jacques Gholston.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis Ashby, his father Lo Ranzy Gholston and two sisters, Yvette Gholston and Nichelle “Shelly” Gholston.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Quincy Faith Assembly of God, 4000 State St., Quincy, IL. A gathering for family and close friends will follow immediately at the Microtel Inn and Suites (Rear Banquet Room).

    We miss Ranny so much. He was a good neighbor and friend to us. We are so sorry we were not able to attend the memorial. Thinking of you all with love.

    To the Steadman and Ranny’s family. I’m so sorry for your loss. Ranny was a happy go lucky guy. Always smiling, singing and having fun whenever he came to Horizons. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. God Bless you Ranny. Ashley, just know that God is walking with you along with your friends.

    Our hearts go out to the Gholston family as they were raised as brothers and sisters to to us all. We laughed and cried together, played survivor till midnight, baseball for River Rats and more. Jabo was the back bone of our neighborhood and his spirit will live on in our hearts. You will truly be missed.

    I send my heartfelt sympathy to the entire family. I remember him from the community center at 15 Cedar when me and my brother Donnie ran it. I remember flaws and all the kids going camping at Wyaconda state park

    First off my condolences go out to his family Jabo was a super friendly guy always had a smile and was always willing to help one day I was at my moms house loading stuff in a truck to be hauled away he came passed on his bike and he stopped and said let me help you with that he was a true friend I grew up with him and I was an old school friend Jabo your going to be greatly missed by all who knew you im going to miss seeing you out riding your bike RIP my friend
