Prudence “Prudy” McKinney

Prudence “Prudy” E. McKinney, age 70, of Quincy, died on December 8, 2016 in Blessing Hospital. Prudy, also affectionately known as “Birdie” was born on December 14, 1945 in Quincy, a daughter of Herbert and Sylvia (Gardner) Meyer. She married Thomas G. McKinney on January 24, 1976 in Lewistown, MO and he survives.
Prudy was the secretary for the Engineering Department of the City of Quincy for over 20 years, retiring in 2007. She was a graduate of Quincy High School.
She was a member of Luther Memorial Church.
As a young woman, she participated in league bowing, and for many years she was known as the lead singer for the local band “Lotus”. She loved boating and fishing. She had fun, and in recent years enjoyed sitting on her back porch with a cold beverage watching the hummingbirds.
In addition to her husband survivors also include her two daughters, Babbett Lock and her husband James of Quincy; Dee Ann Rice and her husband Brian of Moscow Mills, MO; Two grandchildren, Easton Lee Allen and Dallas Rice. A great granddaughter, Addalynn Allen and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Prudy was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Carlton “Squeak” Meyer and a sister, Beverly Daniels.
A private family graveside service will be held in Sunset Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. Memorials are suggested for the Illinois Veteran’s Home Activities Fund.

    I was so sad to hear of Prudy’s passing. She was many things to me…a great neighbor, fun teamate on the bowling team, entertainment in “many” ways, and a good friend. My prayers are with all of you at this time.
