Phyllis J. Ashby
Phyllis J. Ashby age 71, of 233 Locust Street in Quincy, died on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 12:45 p.m. in her home. She was born January 6, 1944 in St. Louis, MO, and was a daughter of Marcus and Myra (Middleberg) Davis. She married Loranzy Gholston and together they had eight children. She later married Edward Ashby, on November 12, 1976, and he preceded her in death on September 4, 1982.
Phyllis had worked at Quincy Paper Box, and at the Hotel Quincy. She was a graduate of Quincy High School. She was known by those who loved her as “Mother Nature” and she was like a mother to many.
Survivors include her eight children,
Robert “Randell” Durk and his wife Elvira of Brandon, FL; Yevette Gholston; Ranny “Jabo” Gholston and his wife Debbie; Nichelle “Chelle” Gholston; Phillip Gholston and his wife Leslie; Maleana Gholston; Jacques Gholston and Chandra “Bree” Gholston all of Quincy. 27 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and a sister, Sharon, also survive.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded, as Phyllis requested, and no funeral services are planned. In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to the family.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Phil and Leslie and the kids went to the same church and I did when I lived in Illinois. May God’s loving arms wrap around your whole family and give you peace and comfort in this painful time in your lives.
OMG!! I’m so sorry. I wish I would have known, I sure would of came to town, I love ❤ Mother nature with all my heart! And I will keep her alive there always!!

i am so sorry you . Your mom was one of a kind lady and I loved her dearly. She was always that one mom in the neighborhood that would watch over all of us not just her kids. She will be missed by all of us!
