Phyllis Ann (Altgilbers) McDonald

Phyllis Ann (Altgilbers) McDonald, wife of Richard James McDonald, peacefully passed on January 17, 2021, surrounded by her husband and children.

She was born to Edwin and Carrie Mae (Whelan) Altgilbers on August 8, 1931 in Quincy, IL. She attended St. John the Baptist School and Quincy Notre Dame High School, class of 1949. From a young age, Phyllis sang and entertained crowds of people until she had a family of her own to sing to and teach her wide repertoire of happy tunes.

Phyllis “Kealy” and Richard “Dick” married in 1951 and had 10 children. Together for 69 years, they enjoyed a life full of traveling, boating, house building, remodeling and decorating. They loved attending weddings and cleared the dance floor wherever they went. Gathering the entire McDonald crew together for celebrations at Summer Creek was the highlight of her and Dick’s life.

Above all things, Kealy loved with a wide-open heart. Her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus along with Dick and her family was palpable. She was showered with Love in return. Babies were always at ease in her arms. Her handwork in crochet, crafts, sewing and photography remain cherished gifts. She lived a beautiful life, an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Kealy led by example as a devoted Catholic. She passes that legacy on to her family of over 100 who carry her in their hearts.
