Phyllis A. Hidy
Phyllis A. Hidy, age 84, of Quincy, died on Friday, May 10, 2019 in Blessing Hospital. She was born September 6, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri the daughter of Freda Hull. She was raised in Barry, Illinois by her Grandma Dollie. At the age of 15, she met the love of her life, Dormand Hidy. They were married on December 13, 1949. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1988.
Early on, Phyllis was a stay-at-home mom raising her four children. She later joined her husband in business at Hidy’s Furniture and Auction Center located at 8th and Jefferson until its closing. Phyllis then helped her daughter raise her two sons. She enjoyed reading the Bible, playing bingo and doing jigsaw puzzles. Most of all, Phyllis cherished the time spent with her family and her faith in Jesus.
She is survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Terry (Becky), Ron (Dana) and Sherri;
THREE GRANDSONS: Shane Hidy, Steven Hidy and Matthew Unglesbee;
ONE GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER: Lola Jackson.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Dormand, a son, Larry and grandson, Shawn.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
Dear Hidy Family,
So sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. It has been many years since I have seen any of you. I wasn’t even sure that your mother was still alive. When you don’t have family reunions, you tend to lose touch with your relatives. Please know that you are in my prayers.
