Paul E. Gerding

Paul E. Gerding, age 97, of Sunset Home, formerly of 3518 North 5th, died on Friday, April 24, 2015 in Sunset Home. He was born on May 11, 1917 in Quincy, the son of Henry and Theresa (Reuter). He married Helen L. Thien on November 15, 1941 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmyra, MO. She preceded him in death on May 13, 1995.

Paul worked at Electric Wheel as a machinist and prior to his retirement in the tool and die room. He retired in 1980. After his retirement, he loved mowing his grass and tending bar at the Eagles.

He is survived by nine children: Paul Gerding of Springfield, IL., Mary (James) Wienhoff of Quincy, Robert “Bob” (Esther) Gerding, Theresa Martin, and Lou (Porter) Gibson all of Quincy, William “Bill” (Catherine) Gerding of Shelbina, MO, Chuck (Debbie) Gerding of Quincy, Linda (Mike) Parks of Clinton, MO and Daniel (Karen) Gerding of Plainville; and his companion, Wilma Wiewel of Quincy; Grandchildren, Jason (Christine) Gerding; Ryan (Shawna) Gerding; Nancy (George) Huber; Chris Wienhoff; Jim Wienhoff and his fiancee Misty Steinkamp; John (Susan) Gerding; Jared (Carrie) Gerding; Lora (Donald) Griffin; Jeff (Penny) Martin; Kim Garkie and her fiance Kelly Logsdon; Mike (Gina) Martin; Tom (Christa) Gibson; Sara (Scott) Heiden; Richard (Kate) Gerding, Amy (Tom) Rickerson; Krisha (Eric) Ley; Kasey Gerding; Kari (James) Weisenberger; Kourtney (Matt) Dye; Kaileen (Jared) Martin; Kody (Aleshia) Gerding; Linda (Mike) Parks; Phillip (Jennifer) Parks; Brandi (Josh) Berg; Kevin (Ashlyn) Gerding; Paul has 49 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren that also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother William Gerding, who died in WWII, a son-in-law Ron Martin, a daughter-in-law Peggy Gerding, and twin great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. in Church of St. Peter. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Church of St. Peter.

    Dear Linda….so sorry for the loss of your Daddy. You had him to love for a long time and that is so wonderful but we are never ready to let them go. Hugs!
