Paul A. McNary

Paul A. McNary, age 90, of the Sunset Home, formerly of 1006 Klondike RD, died on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 12:25 AM in the Home. He was born on November 27, 1923 in New Canton, IL the son of Charles & Loretta (Pfeiffer) McNary. He married Virginia Freeman on May 6, 1956. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2006. Paul was a machinist with Gardner Denver for over 30 years. He also helped farm with his brothers. He was of the Catholic Faith. Paul was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed listening to games as he worked outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, dogs, car shows and visiting with family and friends. He greatly enjoyed traveling, especially the long family vacations together. In earlier years, he was a State Clarinetist and enjoyed tennis. Paul was well-known for his good natured teasing and making people’s day brighter. He loved to tell stories of the past that sparked imagination and humor. He was spirited and strong-willed. Paul believed in God and gained strength, forgiveness and patience through Him. Paul instilled his belief of family, respect, forgiveness and hard work to his family.

He is survived by:
FIVE CHILDREN: Mary Doellman and her husband Ken of Quincy; David McNary of Quincy and James McNary also of Quincy; Betty Ann McNary and her significant other Lonnie of St. Louis, MO; and Loretta “Loree” Augustine and her husband Scott also of St. Louis, MO.
DAUGHTER-IN-LAW: Kellie McNary of Barry, IL
EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN: Matthew Doellman and his wife Mary; Kevin Doellman and Brian Doellman, James McNary II, Michael McNary, Kayla McNary, Garrett Koen and Jennifer Augustine.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, and parents, Paul was preceded in death by a son Alfred McNary, five brothers: Alto, Cletus, Cyril, Hugh and Mike McNary; 2 sisters: Thelma Allensworth, and Dorothea McNary.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Sunset Home or to Quincy Notre Dame.
