Patrick Evans Cornwell
Patrick Evans Cornwell, age 52, of 3211 Golf Dr., died on Saturday, November 20, 2010 in his home. He was born on April 19, 1958 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Merle & Alice June (Johnson) Cornwell. He married Mary Ann Lammers on June 8, 2005 in Las Vegas, NV. She survives. Mr. Cornwell was the owner of Vegas Music from 1995 until the present. He was a graduate of Loraine Elementary and Unity High School. Patrick was a member of LifePoint Bible Church.
Patrick dedicated his life to music. He sang and played drums in many local bands since the early 1970’s. As the owner of Vegas Music in Quincy, he generously gave his time and talent to local musicians and the community. If you had a benefit and you needed a sound system, Pat was the man you came to see for help.
Pat was especially fond of helping the annual Relay for Life event at Flinn Stadium, and he volunteered his time and the sound system for the annual Quanada benefit at Backwaters. Vegas Music was a sounding board for musicians and people who came to buy instruments or just talk about music and life. Many got their start in music because of Pat and will never forget buying their first guitar or getting advice from him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
HIS FATHER: Merle Cornwell of Big Neck, IL.
SEVEN CHILDREN: Christopher Cornwell and his wife Jessica of Quincy; Heather Cornwell of Quincy; Nathan Cornwell of O’Fallon, MO; Kayla Cornwell of Quincy; Katie Holbrook and her husband Jared of Quincy, IL; Alex Lammers and his wife Shawna of Washington, MO; and John Lammers of Quincy.
ONE BROTHER: Johnson Cornwell and his wife Tammy of Big Neck, IL
Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Interment will be in Curless Cemetery near Big Neck, IL. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4-8 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Our most heartfelt condolences to all of Patricks’ family, but especially Merle and Johnson and his family. We were so shocked to hear that Patrick had passed, and that we had missed the services. We will keep all of you in our prayers.
To Heather and all the Cornwell family, Jody and I wish to express our sadness for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you.
Pat,
Words can not desribe how much you will be missed. I consider myself and our organization very lucky to have had the chance to know such a great man. I am giving thanks today for you. You will surely never be forgotten and will remain in our hearts forever. The Relay For Life event will not be the same without you, but I know you will be there in spirit. It’s times like these where we often ask ourselves, ‘Why?’. We are going to fight back even more this year against this awful disease. You can bet on that.
Sincerely,
Christina Turner, American Cancer Society
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Pat was always playing with his band somewhere during my high school days and beyond. He will always be remembered. Keep your faith. Our prayers are with you.

Johnson and family, Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
Was so sorry to hear of Pat’s illness and sudden death. Our prayers are with you at this difficult time. My two boys spent countless hours in Vegas Music purchasing items for their drums and guitars. Pat was an asset to those who played music and was of great help in making the many purchases we did. All of us will greatly miss him. God Bless you and your family.
Mary Ann you and your family are in our thoughts. Memories and the family that surrounds you will carry you through this difficult time.
I will always remember Pat as a classmate and playing in the Middle and High School band together. He was a gentle, kind and thoughtful person. His smile and laughter good light up the room. Rest in Peace. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
I read a recent article in the Herald Whig that if you were married in the 80’s Patrick’s Band probably played at your wedding. I was one of the lucky ones who had that privilege. What a kind and talented man. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
I will always remember Patrick from Unity High School days. He always had a smile and was always there to lend a hand. He will be missed by many and may God rest his soul. Prayers to his family, loved ones and friends.
Our deepest condolences go out to his wife and all of the children.
He was known to us as a warm and caring man.
His pain and suffering is over and he is now in a place of peace and happiness.
