Patrick Edward O’Neal

Patrick Edward O’Neal, age 75, of Ellisville, MO, formerly of Quincy, passed away peacefully at St. Luke Hospital, St. Louis, MO on October 7, 2022. He had endured several years of illness and cancer.

He was born on November 6, 1946 in Columbia, MO the son of Robert C. and Delores “Lorie” (Schnable) O’Neal. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School, Christian Brothers High School, Quincy Technical School and Quincy College, all in Quincy. Patrick married Cindy McClain on July 5, 2003. She survives.

After high school Patrick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a power production specialist. He was stationed in the Philippines Island and Bitburg, Germany. He was honorably discharged June 20, 1969.

He then attended Quincy College where he majored in Art. Pat also taught auto mechanics for the Man-Power training program. He was then hired at Quincy Compressor as a research and development technician. While at Quincy Compressor he progressed through the management ranks as an assembly foreman, Superintendent of Machine, Value Engineering, manufacturing Project Engineer, Reciprocating Compressor Area Manager and VP of the After Market.

Pat also worked as a sales engineer for Conrader Valve Company of Erie, PA. He was instrumental in designing and selling new air compressor control systems. After retirement he, established O’Neal Pneumatic’s and was a knowledgeable sales manager and consultant. Pat could figure out and fix anything, even from miles away by phone.

If you knew Patrick, you were automatically a friend. You couldn’t help but notice the glint in his eyes and the smile on his face as he shook your hand. He absolutely thrived on connecting with others, and in helping out when he could. He was always down for a playful joke, a prank or a good story and was often found dancing in the kitchen when he cooked. Pat was an avid fisherman, problem solver, artist, (especially caricatures) mechanic and engineer. He loved to read books on art, car magazines, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

In addition to his wife, Cindy, he is survived by his children: Alice (Dave) DeGeorge, Franklin O’Neal, Kathleen (Brian) Myers; stepchildren: Chris Goodwin, J.D. Ray (Jessica Califf), Kyleen (Jacob) Hollensteiner, Mackenzie Ray (Brett Turner);; siblings: Mike (Connie) O’Neal, Tim (Lydia) O’Neal, Dan (Lori) O’Neal; Grandchildren: Aaron DeGeorge, Eli Myers, Angus Myers; step grandchildren: Azlyn Goodwin, Chesney Goodwin, Jack Ray, Charles Ray, Ella Ray, Remy Ray, Ravi Ray, Malia Hollensteiner, Chloe Hollensteiner, Jordan Hollensteiner, Carson Meyer, Raylynn Meyer, Tegan Turner; nieces, nephews and other family members also survive.

Patrick especially enjoyed spending time with his brothers, children, grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Delores (Lorie) O’Neal and his father and mother-in-law, John and Charlotte McClain

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke’s for their compassionate care while he was in the hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church. Memorials may be made to Quincy Notre Dame or Donor’s Choice. To the O’Neal family, please accept my deepest sympathies. I met Patrick at age 5, in 1st grade at St. Mary’s School. Our mothers were best friends, so I saw Patrick outside school too. I went to my first high school dance with Patrick. At class reunions he always saved a dance for me. He was a bright spirit and always my friend. Even if I hadn’t seen him for years he always greeted me with a big hug. I am sorry for your loss and for everyone who knew this special man.

Pat came walking into our 55th CB-ND reunion and even though it had been years since I had seen him, it seemed like he hadn’t changed at all. He was still his genuine self….pleasant, easy-going,cheerful. May he rest in peace,

I knew Pat from Quincy College, we were fellow art majors. He was a great guy, very funny, creative, upbeat and underneath the surface, mature beyond his years. We spent many an evening at Pat’s home in Quincy watching TV and watching him repair cars, Great guy that left his mark.

I have many fond memories of sharing life with Pat during high school and connecting when we would gather for our reunions.
