Orville E. “Gene” Dameron

Orville E. “Gene” Dameron, age 79, of 600 Washington, died on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 7:55 Am in Blessing Hospital. He was born on December 11, 1933 in Hannibal, MO the son of Harry & Edna (Triplet) Dameron. He married Rosemary M. Tuxford on January 31, 1953 in Quincy, IL. She survives.

Gene was a self-taught man who was a jack of all trades. He worked at a papermill for 11 years and for Merchants Wholesale for 30 years. Gene was a loving father and grandfather who always wanted to protect his children and instill in them to always do what was right. He enjoyed crafts, drawing, writing, storytelling, woodworking, and making furniture. Gene had artistic abilities of many kinds. He was also more like a father to two of his grandchildren, Rachel and Daniel.

In addition to his wife, Rosemary, he is also survived by:
FOUR DAUGHTERS: Sue Behrens and her husband Michael; Julie Bruce; Eugenie Tournear and her husband Leonard; and Mary Bryant.
NINE GRANDCHILDREN: Crystal Strawn and her husband Ricky; Daniel Dameron; Catherine Lehenbauer and her husband Steve; David Bruce; Tom Norfolk; Becky French; Lucy Richards and her husband John; Sarah Behrens and Rachel Hull and her husband Chris.
22 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters, a grandson Shaun, a granddaughter Robin, 3 great-grandchildren and a very special nephew Phil Murray.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM in Greenmount Cemetery by Rev. V. Lee Amsler. There is no visitation but friends are invited to the graveside services. Memorials may be made to the Riverside Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    I am Emma’s daughter and am saddened by your loss, especially this time of year. From reading the notice, Gene greatly loved his family and was greatly loved in return. That is rare in today’s world and something to be treasured.
