Opal E. Geltmacher Heierle

Opal E. Geltmacher Heierle, age 87, of Quincy and formerly of Macomb, died Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

She was born August 24, 1934 in Macomb, the daughter of Orville and Mabel Beal Geltmacher. She married Ernie Heierle on October 19, 1957 in Costa Mesa, CA and he survives.

Opal is also survived by one sister, Helen Young Glenn of Monmouth; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William Harrison Geltmacher, Donald G. Geltmacher and Robert G. Geltmacher; and two sisters, Vivian Raymond and Wilma Ren.

Mrs. Heierle was a 1952 graduate of Good Hope High School and was employed as a bookkeeper for several years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Church of Christ in Macomb. Opal was an accomplished artist and enjoyed socializing and playing cards with her friends at the Illinois Veteran’s Home. She loved to spend time with her sister and great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veteran’s Home. There will be no formal visitation. Memorials are suggested to Quincy Hospitality House, 1129 Oak Street, Quincy, IL 62301. Condolences may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com.     Our family knew Opal since 1957. We are very sorry to hear of her passing. Please give Ernie a hug from us. The Sorensons (Bud & Frankie preceded) my parents were their best friends.

    Opal is a dear friend who always had a kind compliment for me. I will miss her. It is an honor to know her.
