Ollie P.L. Schoonover
Ollie P.L. Schoonover, 12 year old daughter of William and Heaven (Smith) Schoonover, died on Saturday, January 28, 2023 in the Pediatric ICU at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
She was born on September 21, 2010 in Quincy, Illinois. Ollie was a 6th grader at Liberty Elementary School.
Ollie was more than the cancer diagnosis she was given 3 years ago. She never let it stop her from doing the things she loved most in life. She loved doing sports like basketball, softball, and volleyball. She was playing volleyball just a week before she passed. She was a very competitive person on the court and outside of the court. She started doing 4-H recently and loved every minute of it. She loved spending time with her friends and learning more about everything that happened around her.
In 2022, Ollie was able to go to school for the first time in 3 years and loved every minute of it. She was able to go to cheerleading camp and do cheers for her team, The Eagles. She was an excellent student who loved going above and beyond with all her schoolwork and personal relationships she built. She had an infectious personality that made you gravitate toward her.
She loved hunting with her dad. Even though she had a hard time not talking throughout the hunts. She also loved fishing with her papa and grandma on warm summer days. She started tractor pulling about 3 years ago and loved every minute of it. Being with her papa and riding the teal “transformer.” She had many 1st through 4th place ribbons.
She was an avid Harry Potter fan. She took the Pottermore test and came out a Gryffindor. If you knew Ollie, this fit with her personality to a tee. Courage, chivalry, and determination are the most common descriptions for this house, and she was all those things and more.
She was an artist who loved to tie dye, draw, paint, and so much more. She even donated two of her art pieces to “Art for the Heart” to help raise money for Friends of kids with Cancer.
She loved participating in the Liberty Fall Festival Pageants. This last fall, she participated in Jr Miss Liberty and loved every minute of it. She had a love for music. She was on the drum line and was going to carry on the tradition that her dad and papa started. She also loved ANY music whether it be county, rap, pop it didn’t matter she loved it all.
Ollies favorite quote is one made by Dumbledor from Harry Potter. I will leave this here for you. “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
