Norman A. Lubbe

Norman A. Lubbe, age 88, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, in Madison, WI. A man of strong faith, Norm was prepared for eternal life and ready to be reunited with his wife, Rosie, who preceded him in death on June 17, 2021.

Norm was born on December 8, 1933 in Quincy, IL, a son of Albert and Ada (Schutte) Lubbe. He married Rosemary Kalman on May 19, 1962, in St Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

Norm attended St Francis School and graduated from St. John’s School and Notre Dame High School. He served his country from 1954- 1956 in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, being stationed in Alaska. Upon returning to Quincy, he worked at Electric Wheel and then he retired from Moorman Manufacturing in 1994 after 30 years of service. He and Rosie were active members/volunteers of St Dominic Church and later St Francis Church where he was a proud member of Austin’s Army. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Norm enjoyed many years of golf at Westview Golf Course with his golfing buddies. He was a fan of QND Raider basketball and football for many years. He has been a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan since 1945 and enjoyed watching them win (or lose)! The Cubs definitely lost their most loyal fan.

During his long retirement, he and Rosie also traveled across the U.S. together. Their favorite trips were to Niagara Falls, Las Vegas and to any riverboat casinos with loose slot machines! They also made many trips to Chicagoland and Madison over the years to visit their family and grandchildren. Norm always enjoyed a Manhattan (or two) once he arrived in town!

Survivors include his three children: John (Renee) Lubbe, Susan (Andy) Kempen, and Tim (Melissa) Lubbe; grandchildren Caroline, Kate, Lauren, Joseph and Sarah Lubbe. His sister-in-law Phyllis Lubbe and many nieces and nephews also survive.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosie, his parents, and siblings Bernice Lubbe in infancy, Arlene (Don) Reis and Alan Lubbe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St Francis Solanus Catholic Church, Father David Beagles presiding. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation will be on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

Memorials are suggested to St Francis Solanus Catholic Church, St Dominic School or the Dominican Sisters of Springfield IL. Service arrangements are in care of Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
