Norma Jean Obert

Norma Jean Obert age 92, of Quincy died on Friday, December 16, 2022, in Good Samaritan Home. Norma was born in Payson, IL on June 20, 1930, a daughter of Noah Meloy and Eleanor Agatha (Peter) Stahl. She was married to Kenneth Henry Obert on April 30, 1949, at St. Mary Catholic Church in LaGrange, MO, Kenneth preceded her in death on March 8, 1998.

Norma was a 1948 graduate of Notre Dame High School. She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. Norma was a very hard worker; gardening and yardwork were two of her favorite past-times. Decorating her yard for Christmas was an annual holiday tradition.

She liked playing cards, attending card parties and she bowled for many years. Times with her family were always treasured. Norma enjoyed socializing and until recently had met monthly with a group of her high school friends.

Survivors include her two children: Diane J. Ruff of Columbia, MO and Kenneth L. (Janice K.) Obert of Quincy, IL.
Five grandchildren, Jamie (Ryan) Gilliland of California, MO; Jeri Ruff of Columbia, MO; Kenneth R. (Barbara) Obert of Springfield, IL; Andrea (Travis) Shelton; Amy (Adam) Mrugacz all of Edwardsville, IL. Great Grandchildren, Matthew, Maggie, and Quincy Gilliland; Kaylee, Eleanor, and Gabrielle Obert; Kathryn, Madelyn, and Andrew Shelton; Michael and Mia Mrugacz. Her siblings, Virginia Brinkman; Meloy (Theresa) Stahl; Joan Cannady; Kathleen Dietrich and Florence (Norbert) Dreyer. A brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leroy (Delores) Obert and Anna Mae Liggett. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law Douglas Ruff; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Gilliland; and four that were stillborn Grace, Samuel, James Gilliland and Vivian Mrugacz, a sister and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on the Obert and Stahl sides of the family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Arisman. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday morning from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis Church. Memorials are suggested to St. Dominic Grade School or Quincy Notre Dame.     Norma was a dear friend, I bowled. with her many years She was the person that got me involved golfing at K&C. We were not good golfers but had fun trying. .
