Norma Claire Schneider
Norma Claire Schneider, of Quincy, age 88, died on Monday, April 27, 2020 in Bickford Assisted Living Home. She was born on May 26, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of William and Eleanor (Lennert) Druffel. She married Leo Carl Schneider, Jr on October 20, 1956 in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1987. Norma was mostly a homemaker for many, many years but was also employed by St. Francis Solanus Parish as a kindergarten teacher, Gardner Denver, the Quincy Casket Co, Sears and the Green Turtle Gift Shop. Norma attended St. Francis Solanus Elementary School, Quincy Notre Dame and Quincy College.
Norma was a life-time member of St. Francis Solanus parish.
Norma was always interested in gardening, working in her yard and eventually achieved the Master Gardner distinction during retirement. Earlier in life she was an active bowler participating in many leagues. She was also a very active card player who hosted bridge parties for many years with her close card playing friends. Norma was also a very talented musician having played the piano, violin and glockenspiel at various times in her life. She also played a little golf, a little tennis and was known to volunteer for a game of “pitch and catch” in her younger years too. Norma also enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in all sports and musical events. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Carl, especially cruising the Mississippi River in their speedboat, for many years. Most importantly, “she loved people” and always ran into someone she knew when running errands. Her husband, Carl, her family and friends, and her faith, were her lifeblood, they were her most important “activities of interest.”

SONS: Stephen Carl Schneider and his wife Julie Freiburg Schneider of Deerfield, IL. And William ‘Bill’ Leo Schneider and his wife Brenda Kluba Schneider of Quincy, IL
GRANDCHILDREN: Michael Carl Schneider (Susan Anderson) of Portland, OR; Elizabeth Ann Schneider (Eric Myerberg) of Evanston, IL and Kathleen Marie Schneider of Chicago, IL; Melinda Schneider Hoener (Zach Hoener) of Mendon, IL and Brian Schneider of Chicago, IL.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Delilah, Stella and Talia; Levi and Maelyn.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carl.
The family wishes to thank all of Norma’s many, many friends who enjoyed life with her in so many ways over the years. Special thanks go to the Bickford of Quincy staff and to the Blessing Hospice and Palliative Care representatives who assisted and comforted her at the end of her journey in this life. Memorials may be directed to Quincy Notre Dame.
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, there will be a private Mass of Christian Burial for Norma. The funeral mass will be broadcast live at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2020 on the St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church website: stfrancissolanus.com. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all their friends and family for their love and support during this time. Please be with us in prayer and feel free to send a card or note to the family directly or through the funeral home. Donations may be made to Quincy Notre Dame in Norma’s memory. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Steve & Bill I remember hanging out with your family when I was a girl. Fun memories of the casket boxes providing all kinds of imaginative play! My parents, Betty & Tony Wiewel, considered Norma & Carl dear friends. So sorry for your loss.

Norma was always the sweetest lady with the most kind heart! I remember the last time I got to spend time with Norma she made me a pizza and ice cream and we talked about how college was going. I always looked forward to going to my grandmas to see Norma’s smiling face outside doing yard work.
We are sorry to hear the passing of such a wonderful lady. Norma always smiled loved joking around and we are blessed to be able to call her a friend Prayers to the family during this time

I was saddened to hear that your mom passed away. I can remember many times that our parents got together socially. Every time that I saw your mom she was always so happy to visit. I know too that my mom Betty will be saddened to by the news of her passing.

Steve, she will always bring a smile to our faces when we recall the many, many times we were welcomed to hang out at your family home throughout our high school and college years. Norma was truly a “special lady.”
My deepest condolences. Norma was such a wonderful friend to me. I so enjoyed our family gatherings as her laughter continously filled the room and her cooking was amazing. My visits to Quincy will not be the same as I will so be missing her smiling face and loving frienship.

Sorry to hear that your mom passed away. She certainly has been missed at the Seniors dinners at the KC.She was such a fun person to be around.
Norma was one of the most amazing people i’ve ever met. So kind hearted and always loving towards everyone. The summers spent with my grandma in quincy and getting to see norma every day out in her yard and talk to her or have her come over in the afternoon and hangout with us. I am beyond grateful to be able to have experienced some of the memories i had with her.
Norma was the sweetest and the classiest of ladies. She was one of our favorite neighbors 2-3 houses down. She came to lots of our games nights ,birthday parties ,and backyard get togethers! We missed seeing her out in her yard and will greatly miss her now. A wonderful beloved lady prayers to the family.

By making her contact to thank us for housing Steve for several weeks in 1975 in Amsterdam during the celebrations of the 700th anniversary, we have developed a special friendship. This has led to a loyal friendship with Steve that has already lasted 45 years. We and my mother have kept in touch with Norma all these years. How wonderful was her visit to Holland.
