Norbert V. Peter

Norbert V. Peter age 97, of 1319 East 1500th Quincy, died on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 11:46 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. He was born July 4, 1914 in Adams County, a son of Albert and Ida (Blickhan) Peter. He married Bernice Hildebrand on Wednesday, May 10, 1938 in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. She died March 7, 1989.
Norbert worked at Electric Wheel and farmed his entire life. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Western Catholic Union and the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph Church.
He still was able to drive a tractor and was looking forward to driving again this spring. He started farming with horses and has since farmed with tractors that guide themselves. At the age of 97, he was still living on his own and driving his car. Norb loved to play cards and checkers, and be with his family.
Survivors include his children: Marjorie “Marge” Kinne, Jean (Harden) Lohman (Bill) all of Quincy; Shirley Alexander (Bill) of Camp Point, Joyce Kroencke (Bob) of Quincy, Donna Dieker (Dave) of Camp Point and Randy Peter (Deb) of Quincy. Sixteen Grandchildren: Diann Hummelsheim (Alan) of Wichita, Kansas, Deb Powell (Dennis) of Quincy, Mark Kinne (Kim), and Darin Kinne all of Quincy, Jill Alemi ( Mark) of Louisville, Kentucky; Joy Harden of St Louis, MO, Kim Harden of Chicago, Angela Elmore (Dan) of Quincy, Kelly Kulla (Jeff) of Leawood, Kansas, Jeff Kroencke (Raquel) of Quincy, Bret Kroencke (Janet) of Champaign, Sarah Leffers (Lee) of Quincy, Bethany Moore (Greg) of Camp Point, Julie Eftink (Chad) of Quincy, Derek Peter (Katie) and Jered Peter (fiancee RaeAnn Volk) all of Quincy.
23 Great Grandchildren: Heather Meleney (Brian)Kelsie Denum (Josh), Shayne, Jacob, Julia, Davin and Maxie Kinne, Austin and Jack Alemi, Jordan and Brock Elmore, Brittany Kulla, Jacob, Kate, and Nick Kroencke, Emilee, Lauren and Jackson Leffers, Gabrielle and Isabella Littig and Nicholas Moore, Blair and Beau Eftink, Dawson Peter and a baby girl due in July.
Two Step Great Grandchildren: Steve Elmore (Erin) and Alexis Moore. One great- great grandchild: Bryslin Powell; One step great-great grandson, Brennon Meleney.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, nine brothers and sisters: Olivia Lentz, Elizabeth Huber, Clara Aschemann, Eleanor Stahl, Eugene Peter, Paul Peter, Emily Wand Martha Klauser and Carl Robert Peter, 2 Sons-in-law: Gary Harden in 1981 and Max Kinne in 1993.
Funeral services will be on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church by the Rev. Jeff Stone.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
