Nora Rose Washington
Nora Rose Washington, age 80, of Quincy, died on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Blessing Hospital.
She was born on September 19, 1939 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Alonzo and Mary Amanda (Hicks) Pankey. She graduated from Des Moines, IA High School, a member of the class of 1957. Nora was joined in marriage to Bobby Joe Washington, Sr. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2003.
Nora worked at Pier Restaurant as a cook for many years. She also was employed as a certified nursing assistant and school bus driver.
Nora will be remembered for her wonderful cooking, her green thumb, and her love of dancing. She also greatly enjoyed going fishing. Nora loved her collection of wigs, and also collected many American Native American dolls and dream catchers.
Nora is survived by eight children: Bobby W. (Gabe) Washington, Jr., Darryl Washington, Robin Washington, Sherry Dade, Melissa (James Peacock) Washington, Jody Talton, Rochelle Washington, Aaron Washington, all of Quincy; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Washington; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters: Virginia and Norma Jean Pankey.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, July 6, 2020 at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, Elder Paul Washington officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2020 at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
