Nelson “Andy” Sparks, Jr. age 58, of 2200 Rainbow Lane, Quincy, formerly of Corpus Christi, Texas Saturday, died on February 23, 2008 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on January 1, 1950 in Pittsfield, Illinois, the son of Nelson A. Sparks, Sr. and Betty J. (Masterson) Sparks. He married Carol Bishop, and she preceded him in death on June 28, 2005.

Andy graduated from Unity High School in 1968. He went on to serve his county in the US Marines during the Vietnam War from 1968 until 1970, were he was awarded the purple heart. He later served in the US Army from 1976 until 1980. Andy was a maintenance worker for Sears Roebuck in Corpus Christi, Texas retiring in 2005. He loved watching cooking shows especially Paula Dean and Rachel Ray, and he was a big wrestling fan.

He is survived by
ONE BROTHER: Claud L. Sparks of Houston, Texas;
ONE SISTER: Debra “Debbie” Sutton and companion Diane Danley;
TWO STEPCHILDREN: Robin and Kimberly of Texas;
step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, wife, and a brother Robert Sparks.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in Greenmount Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #37.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
