Nancy K. Terwelp
Nancy K. Terwelp, age 92, of Quincy, Illinois, died on Saturday, June 1, 2024 in Quincy. She was born on August 3, 1931, in Quincy, the daughter of William “Bill” and Verna (Koetters) Blersch.
She married Thomas A. Terwelp in May of 1953 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in May of 2004. Nancy was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church and a devout Catholic.
Nancy was a homemaker, she also worked at the JC Penney stores, uptown and later at the Quincy Mall. She was a 1949 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame. Nancy loved sports and was a lifelong Cardinal baseball fan and Illini fan. She and Tom enjoyed antiquing and traveling together. She was known to be obsessed with shopping. Time with her children and grandchildren was her favorite pastime.
Nancy is survived by five children: Peggy Terwelp of St. Louis, Missouri; Paul Terwelp (Dana) of Denver, Colorado; Pamela Laaker (Chuck) of Quincy, Illinois; Perry Terwelp of Quincy, Illinois; and Penny Terwelp of Lawrence, Kansas. Six grandchildren include: Barbara Gustison; Tracy Terwelp; Troy Terwelp; Taylor Terwelp; Kim McLaren; and Sarah Laaker. Nancy is also survived by a great-grandson, Rylan Hipps, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Pat (Blersch) Schralla and her husband Charles. Brothers-in-law Richard H. Terwelp and Richard T. Pierce; and sisters-in-law Evelyn Terwelp and Elaine Pierce.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of mass at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, American Heart Association, or Quincy Notre Dame. Service arrangements are with The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Our sincere condolences to the Terwelp Family. Nancy, Tom, and Family, anchored the Eastern border of the former St John’s parish with distinction. She left a beautiful legacy in the trail of the beautiful life she lived.
