Monique Sanders

Monique Sanders, age 79, of Holt, MO, formerly of Quincy, died on Thursday, March 11, 2021 in her home. She was born on October 31, 1941 in Froidmont, Belgium, the daughter of Dr. André Dedonder and Juliette (Smeyers) Dedonder. Monique married Glen R. Sanders in 1983 in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death in 2000.

She graduated high school in Bukavu, Africa and was a graduate of the University of Brussels, Belgium. She was employed at the Illinois Veterans’ Home until her retirement.

Monique loved hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and flower gardening. She loved playing Euchre, watching Netflix, playing computer games with friends, and eating pizza, Kentucky Fried Chicken and ice cream. She also enjoyed her “Hooch” which was her homemade Irish Cream.

She is survived by her children: Brenda (Rich) Lemke of Parkville, MO, Andrea “Miki” (David) Ward of Holt, MO, Christopher Akers of Springfield, IL; stepchildren: Glenn (Doris) Sanders of Quincy, Cindy (Bruce) Tossick of Quincy, Steve (Korina) Sanders of Marcelline, IL, Julie (Tim) Entrup of Quincy and Andy (Donna) Sanders of Quincy; daughter-in-law, Mary Akers of La Prairie, IL; ten grandchildren: Brad (Sandra) Akers, Samantha Akers, Gail (Ray) Harrison, Matt (Jessica) Frazier, Mark (Lacy) Frazier, Lindsey Ward, Brittany (Ryan) Talbert, Hailey (Colt) Hall; Todd (Jenna) Hendrickson and Marci Akers; eleven step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren; one brother and nephews also survive.

Monique was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen, a son, Larry Akers, Jr. and a brother and sister in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Fr. Tom Donovan. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Those attending are kindly asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
