Mildred “Milly” E. Grussenmeyer age 88, of Sunset Home, died on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 3:15 a.m. in the Home where she had resided for the past four years. Milly was born to Frederick and Clara (Blawat) Hermann on February 10, 1923 in Milwaukee, WI.
At the age of two, Milly and her father moved to Quincy to live following the death of her mother. Milly was raised by her paternal grandmother, Helen Hermann and her aunt, Marie (Hermann) Bueter. She met Arthur Paul Grussenmeyer in the Fall of 1941, and soon Arthur was called to serve in World War II and was away for five years. While Art was in the service, Milly worked at Ely-Walker Factory as a seamstress. Upon Art’s return from the war, they were married on August 31, 1946.
Milly was a longtime member of the Church of St. Peter.
Milly was an accomplished seamstress who loved to sew and to do needlework. She made clothing for her daughters and crafts for her community. A wife and homemaker, Milly was also generous in volunteering for many local groups including St. Peter Church, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Notre Dame High School, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the former St. Mary Hospital and Blessing Hospital Auxiliaries.
Milly will be remembered with love by everyone who knew her, as a gentle, soft-spoken, kind and generous spirit.
In addition to her husband Art, survivors also include her children, Ann (James) Palmer of Quincy; Sue (James “Monty”) Eaton of Chicago Heights, IL; Philip (Kathleen Peters Kamphaus) Grussenmeyer of Springfield, IL; Mary Kay (Brad) Parn of Olathe, KS;
The great joys of Milly’s life were her twelve grandchildren, Mark (Melissa) Palmer, Jennifer Palmer, Christopher ( Amanda) Palmer, Amy (Joey) Seymour, Rebecca (Ken) Lopez, Jamie (Nicole) Eaton, Philip (Sarah) Grussenmeyer, Paul (Missy) Grussenmeyer, Joe (Melanie) Grussenmeyer, Aaron Parn, Dominic Parn and Maria Parn; her twelve great-grandchildren and nine step- great-grandchildren.
Milly was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter-in-law Gemma (Kamphaus) Grussenmeyer.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral Mass at 10:00 in the Church of St. Peter conducted by the Rev. Roy Bauer. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 6:45 p.m.
Memorials are requested to the Church of St. Peter, Quincy Notre Dame High School or to Sunset Home.

So very sorry for the loss of your mother. Milly was a true blessing to those who were fortunate enough to have her touch their lives. Wish we could be there to celebrate her life and to share in the good-byes. May she rest in peace, and may you and your family be comforted.
