Mildred E. Hillebrenner

Mildred “Millie” Elizabeth Hillebrenner, 89, of Quincy, died on Friday (July 20, 2018) in the Good Samaritan Home.
Millie was born Nov. 15, 1928, in rural Adams County, the daughter of Leonard and Lidwina (Willer) Rossmiller. She married Donald E. Hillebrenner on May 20, 1950 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. He survives.

Millie grew up working on the farm and graduated from Liberty High School in 1946. She retired from Sears in 1986 after 18 years as a sales clerk. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Blessing Hospital Tea Room, and the mailroom of the old St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a longtime member of St. Peter Church and active volunteer with the St. Veronica’s Guild – knitting baby blankets for baptisms.

Millie was beloved by her five children, their spouses, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, making them each handmade Christmas ornaments for over 30 years and creating beautiful counted-cross stitch angels that will be treasured family heirlooms forever.

She loved collecting Cardinal statues and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, even sitting in the broadcast booth at Spring Training. She was lucky on the penny slots and dazzled her family on the piano. Millie was known for her homemade fried chicken and handmade pie crusts – with many a grandchild headed straight to her house for a delicious meal when coming back to town. She briefly lived in Alaska and traveled around the country to see family in Texas, California, Florida, Maryland and Virginia and visited Las Vegas, Hawaii, the Panama Canal and Rome, Italy.

In addition to her husband, Millie is survived by her five children, Gary (Lynda) Hillebrenner of Quincy, Greg (Michelle) Hillebrenner of Louisberg, NC, Gloria (Bill) Ludwig of Quincy, Jeffrey (Jan) Hillebrenner of Springfield, IL, and Dennis (Michelle) Hillebrenner of Murphysboro, IL;

10 grandchildren, Julie Ludwig of Beach Park, IL, Stacey (Matt) Eccles of Godfrey, IL, Matthew (Elizabeth) Hillebrenner of Silver Spring, MD, Nancy Ludwig of Quincy, IL, Melissa (David) Kilby of Alexandria, VA, Michael (Lindsay)Hillebrenner of South Elgin, IL, Laurie (Dennis) Craft of Charlotte, MI, Chris (Maria) Hillebrenner of Chesterton, IN, Angie Hillebrenner of Springfield, IL, and Brittany Hillebrenner of Carterville, IL; nine great-grandchildren;
her brother Earl (Susie) Rossmiller of Liberty, IL and sister Rita Terstriep of Payson, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul Rossmiller and Virgil Rossmiller; two sisters, Marie Vogel and Dorothy Wilde; and an infant daughter.
