Mildred Ann Tournear

Mildred Ann Tournear, age 90, of St. Vincent’s Home, formerly of Liberty, IL, died on Monday, December 28, 2015 in the home. She was born on June 21, 1925 in Ellington Township in Adams County, IL, a daughter of Joseph N. & Helen (Baumann) Zanger. She married Walter Tournear on April 28, 1943 in St. Brigid Rectory. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2000.

Mildred devoted her life to being a homemaker to her family.

She was a lifelong member of St. Brigid Catholic Church. She was a devout Catholic, her faith was a central part of her life, and of her family’s life.

Mildred loved to do embroidery and she was an avid reader. She was a wonderful cook, well known for her pies and homemade noodles.

She made many friends at St. Vincent’s and was especially close to her roommate of five years.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Kuhn of Mendon, IL and Jay Ross Tournear; ten grandchildren, Myra Kuhn of Quincy, Rev. Melvin Kuhn of Aberdeen, SD, Marvin Kuhn and Myron Kuhn both of Mendon, IL, Anaise (Derek) England of Edina, MO, Robert Kuhn of Springfield, IL, Matthew Kuhn and Aaron Kuhn both of Mendon, IL, Brady Tournear and Mackenzie Finnigan Tournear both of Quincy; three great-grandchildren, Thomas, Daniel and John England of Edina, MO; a sister Carlene Crawford of Liberty, IL; and a brother-in-law, Rev. Prosper (Charlotte) Tournear of Wyoming, IL. Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Walter, and her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Tournear, a son-in-law, Thomas Kuhn; siblings, Catherine (Lawrence) Knuffman, Rita (Jess) Mowen, Richard (Irma) Zanger; and a sister Marilyn Zanger in infancy;
a brother-in-law Carl (Audrey) Tournear and a sister-in-law Naomi (Leonard) Jurgens.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Brigid Catholic Church in Liberty, by Rev. Melvin Kuhn with Rev. Jeff Stone concelebrating. Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the K of C’s TV Mass for the Shut-In’s or Masses may be given in her name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD, St. Edward Church in Mendon, IL or to St. Brigid Church in Liberty.
