Michael “Mike” L. Davis

Michael “Mike” L. Davis, age 70, of Quincy, died on Thursday, March 14, 2019 in his home. Mike was born on December 6, 1948 in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of Jesse J. and Grace C. (Gaskins) Davis. He married Elaine (Grimmett) Davis on December 7, 1990 in Quincy. She survives.

Mike graduated from Hannibal High School and served his country in the US Army. He received a Purple Heart during the Vietnam War.

He was a machinist at Dura Automotive in Hannibal for twenty-three years and eleven years at Electric Wheel in Quincy.

Mike was a member of the Cathedral of Worship. He was an avid reader and loved watching Westerns and sports, especially baseball. Mike loved yard work and taking care of the pool, especially sitting out on the deck reading and listening to music. Mike was a foster parent for 25 years. He enjoyed playing baseball and watching his sons and family play all their sports. He loved his dogs, “Beef”, Beethoven and JJ.

Mike is survived by his wife and children: Kathryn R. (Thaddeus) Coleman, Conyers, GA; Monica L. (Tryone) Williams, Conyers, GA; Mica L. Davis, Quincy, IL; Antoinette M. Pleasant, Chicago, IL; Michael L. Davis, Quincy, IL; Makayla E. Davis, Quincy, IL; Priscilla Queenie Grant of Lancaster, CA; Jose Buckner, Atlanta, GA; Tristan L. Johnson, Denver, CO; and foster child Mason, Quincy, IL.

GRANDCHILDREN: Daija’ T. Coleman, Ka’Maria T. Coleman, A’miya T. Coleman, Zaire M. Howard, Kenya M. Howard, Tyrone F. Williams, Jr., Kyril M.L. Moffatt and Nevaeh M. Williams

SIBLINGS: Gaylon C. (Kara) Davis, Ottumwa, IA; Jessica L. Davis, Hannibal, MO; James A. (Christina) Davis, Trabucco Canyon, CA; and Carlos L. (Renee) Davis, Sr., Hannibal, MO.

SPECIAL SISTERS-IN-LAW: Marjorie Davis, Peoria, IL and Cassandra “Cass” Green of Springfield, IL.

SPECIAL AUNT: Shirley “Pickles” Wofford.

HIS BEST FRIEND FOREVER, Jim Gay, Sr., Quincy, IL.

SPECIAL FRIENDS OF HIS CHILDREN: (They called him dad); Tiria Humphrey, De’Angelo Dean, Tomas Dean and Wesley Ervin, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Jesse J. and Grace C. Davis, his grandparents: John B. and Bydia Jackson Howard and Henry and Helen Louise Gaskins Duvall and two brothers, James H. Davis and John B. Davis.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of Worship, 215 North 25th Street, Quincy, IL. Interment in Sunset Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held on Friday morning 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of Worship. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Educational Fund in the care of Elaine Davis.
