Michael E. Whelan, age 61, of 285 County Road 1500, West Point, IL, died on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 7:37 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. He was born on February 17, 1952 in Quincy, a son of Everett Whelan & Ruth (Loman) Hultz. He married Kathy Campbell on February 25, 1971 in Quincy. She survives.

Michael served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He worked for Fed Ex retiring after twenty-five years of service.

He enjoyed the outdoors and loved time spent hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, Kathy, he is survived by a daughter Dena Steinkamp and her husband Todd of Ursa, IL; his step-father, Joe Hultz of Quincy, IL; one brother, Todd Whelan of Moline, IL; two grandchildren Alyssa & Zach Steinkamp of Ursa, IL; nephews Matthew, Austin & Nathan Whelan; and niece Bethany Cordes, her husband Thomas and children Henry, Maggie & Charlie. Numerous cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Carol Creely

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at West Point Cemetery with military honors.
