Merle J. “Jay” Cobb

Merle J. “Jay” Cobb, age 76, of the Good Samaritan Home, died on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the Home. He was born on August 23, 1941 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Merle & Betty (Harness) Cobb. He married Constance ‘Connie’ Hagerbaumer January 20, 1961 in St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on November 16, 2009.

Jay worked for CIPS for many years. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was extremely proud of his service to the country. Jay enjoyed camping and fishing. He also liked shooting trap.

Jay is survived by:
THREE SIBLINGS: Sandy Schildt and her husband Ron of Fowler, IL; Bill Cobb and his wife Sharon of Quincy, and Lori Dickhut and her husband Dan of Paloma, IL.
Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews along with other relatives and many friends also survive.

In addition to his wife, Jay was also preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Good Samaritan Home. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery by the United States Marine Funeral Detail and the American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be at the Chapel of the Good Samaritan Home on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Home. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
