Melba M. Zimmerman
Melba M. Zimmerman, age 94, of 1622 North Avenue, Quincy, died on Saturday, August 16, 2014 in the Good Samaritan Home. She was born on July 25, 1920 in Quincy, Il the daughter of Leroy and Violet (Bentrop) Slack. She married George J. Zimmerman on December 6, 1942 in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death in 1993. Melba worked for Jack’s in Quincy for several years in the 1960’s. She was a 1938 graduate of Quincy Senior High School and then later graduated from Gem City Business College.
She was a member of American Legion Auxillary and was a RSVP Volunteer. One of her greatest joys for the last twenty years was volunteering, helping others, and spending time with her many friends at the Quincy Senior Center. She will be well remembered for her wealth of knowledge concerning old Quincy neighborhoods and families.
She will be sorely missed by her whole family whom she dearly loved.

THREE CHILDREN: Larry G. Zimmerman of Quincy; Nancy Erwin and her husband Bob of Bloomington, IL and Sandy McDonald and her husband Harold of Quincy
SIX GRANDCHILDREN: Ty Zimmerman and his wife Erika, Rachael Zimmerman, Jenny Butler and her husband Jerry, Kristi Balonis and her husband Sean; Elizabeth Haugh and her husband Jared and Christopher McDonald and his wife Jeanne.
THIRTEEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Lindsay Zimmerman, Ashley & Pyper Zimmerman, Alyssa, Matthew, and Addison Butler; Joey Balonis; Haley, Abby and Seth Haugh, Colin, Amelia and Ian McDonald.
Also surviving are nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
Sandy, was sorry to hear about your mom. We were classmates a little while at Highland Riverside…3rd, 4th, & 5th grades, I think. I think about you and Carla every once in awhile. I will be thinking about you and your family!
