Maynard J. “Jay” Hoskins

Maynard “Jay” J. Hoskins age 72, of 5314 Esther Ave. Quincy died on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11:45 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. He was born August 24, 1937 in Quincy, a son of Avner and Madolyn (Fitzpatrick) Hoskins. He married Joyce A. Rorick on February 25, 1961 in Quincy’s Salem Evangelical Church of Christ and she survives.

Jay was a Supervisor and Troubleshooter of International paper Co. retiring after 35 years with the company. Since his retirement, he has worked for Two Rivers FS as a truck driver.

He served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne as a Ranger and Pathfinder. Jay was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the Masons Scottish Rite, the Shriner’s and South Side Boat Club.

Jay was a good friend to everyone, he never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren; he enjoyed Nascar, flowers, barbecuing and beer.

In addition to his wife, survivors also include a son Mark Hoskins and wife Cara of Golden, IL; a daughter Paula Hubbard and husband Glenn of East Alton, IL; four grandchildren, Jenna Hoskins of Quincy; Jordin Hoskins of Coatsburg, Il Ridgely and Reagan Hubbard both of East Alton, IL;
Brothers and Sisters, Fern Marie Plunk; Gertrude “Trudy” Morton both of Quincy; Forrest “Timber” Hoskins and his wife Phyllis of Rock Island, IL; Harold Hoskins and Rod Hoskins both of Quincy;
a brother-in-law, James Boone of Plainville, IL numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved golden retriever Maggie also survives.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Barnard, Gene, Jerry and Donald Hoskins; sisters Madolyn May, Connie Walker and Nancy Boone.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. Thomas Kamprath. Interment will be in Shiloh Cemetery near Plainville. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
There will be a Masonic Service Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Quincy Humane Society or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
