Mattie Lee Alexander, age 89, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 1309 Cherry Lane, Quincy, died on Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the Home. She was born on March 9, 1921 in Antigo, WI, a daughter of Charles & Etta (Ingram) Bowen. She married John J. Alexander on December 31, 1945 in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2000.

Mattie was a member of the Tabernacle of Praise Church.

She had spent most of her life as a homemaker and had worked part-time for Gore’s Florist in her later years. Here greatest enjoyment was her family, especially her grandson, Kyle.

Survivors include:
TWO SONS: Dennis Alexander & Mark Alexander both of Quincy;
ONE DAUGHTER: Judy Campbell of Hannibal, MO;
ONE BROTHER: Garrett “Jack” Bowen and his wife Mary of Fowler, IL;
ONE GRANDSON: Kyle Alexander of Normal, IL.
Mattie is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Russell and Oakley Bowen, three sisters, Goldie Kramer, Eunice Bleakley and Norma Hendricks.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. Steve Disseler. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the WGEM Honor Flight.
