Matthew R. Guthrie

Matthew R. Guthrie, age 23, of Chicago, died on Sunday, September 15, 2013 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on January 14, 1990 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Anthony & Dawn (Dickinson) Guthrie. Matt was working as an intern for Alderman Fioretti in Chicago and was also seeking to represent the newly formed 25th Ward in Chicago. Matt was attending college in the Chicago area studying Political Science and Business. He enjoyed traveling, photography, and taking Helicopter Flight training. He was a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, the Chicago Bears, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Matt also enjoyed and was proud of the community service he had done in the Chicago area including his involvement with the Chicago Chapter of the American Red Cross.

HIS LOVING PARTNER: Barry Horowitz of Chicago.
HIS PARENTS: Anthony and Dawn Guthrie of Grayslake, IL
THREE BROTHERS: Michael Guthrie of Oklahoma City, OK, Mitchell Guthrie and Nicholas Guthrie of Grayslake, IL
PATERNAL GRANDFATHER: Darrell Guthrie of Tioga, IL
MATERNAL GRANDFATHER: Richard Dickinson of Quincy
MATERNAL GRANDMOTHER: Sandra Hoots of Quincy
Numerous aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, cousins and other relatives also survive.

Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother: Betty Guthrie, an aunt Michelene Neil and an uncle Kevin Guthrie.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 10:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Charity of the Donor’s Choice.

    I went to school with Matt at downtown Chicago. He was always happy and a loving person. I’m very sorry for his loss. He would always make the class laugh and smle with his personality. Oh my I miss you so much already Matt!! I hope you find peace up there and I’ll never forget you <3

    We truly will miss Matt as he was not only our client but our friend. All have been touched by his positive attitude and when he came in gave us all a smile. He was part of our family and we are hurt to see him leave.
