Mary Virginia Flot age 78, of 4822 North 72nd St. Quincy died on Monday, June 9, 2008 in Buffalo Grove, IL. Mary was born March 16, 1930 in Quincy the daughter of Champ Clark Grimmett and Ruth Ann Smith Grimmett.
Mary was a 1979 graduate of Quincy College with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology.
Mary was retired from her job as an administrative assistant in the library at Quincy College.
She was a foster parent who cared for numerous children over the years.
She had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and she served in the Reserves during the Vietnam War. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also a member of Friends of the Library. Mary loved children and would care unconditionally for any child in need. She was an avid gardener and loved animals, especially dogs and horses.
Survivors include her children, three sons: Robert Flot, Sr, and his wife Shehaam of Deerfield, IL;
Rory Flot and his wife Nurhenny of Buffalo Grove, IL and William Flot and his partner B.J. of Bloomington, IL and a daughter, Heather Flot of Quincy; Grandchildren, Robert Flot, II, River Flot, Victoria and Chelsea Flot.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother in infancy, her former husband Roy Flot and her aunt and uncle, Naomi and Orville Watts.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Mary’s name for the benefit of Quincy University’s Library.

Mary V will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. She was a very lovely person and we missed waking up in the moring and seeing her van parked in our driveway. May God be with you all in this time of her homegoing.
