Mary Tipton

Mary Tipton, age 62, of 805 South 12th, died on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in the Emergency Room of Blessing Hospital. She was born on September 13, 1955 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Earl and Mildred (Brinkman) Darnell. She married Michael Tipton on May 3, 1975. He survives.

Mary graduated Notre Dame in 1973. Mary was currently employed at The Quincy Herald Whig. She had worked prior to that at Denman’s, Merchant’s and Maidrite all of Quincy. Mike was also employed at Maidrite on opposite shifts where she and Mike were introduced and started their courtship.

As a little girl Mary was involved in dance, participating in many dance competitions and swimming, particularly diving and attending diving competitions. As she got older she became an avid softball player as a catcher, where she was given her nickname “Yogi” or “Bear”. Mary was the only girl out of her four other siblings, and she never let that stand in her way. She loved to camp, fish, bowl, and throw darts. She loved frogs where she was given her nickname “Toad” or as some would call her “Toady Jo Rae”. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and canning.

Those who knew Mary, knew her for her contagious laugh, convoluted food preferences, obsession with Snoopy, her willingness to help others, involvement in her grandkids, and with her boys. Family was her priority and prominent part of her life. There were no strangers. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, Mary is also survived by: THREE SONS: Anthony Tipton and his wife Bassant Abdelrahman of Lavon, TX; Joshua Tipton and his wife Jennifer of Hamilton, IL; and Dillon Tipton of Quincy. ELEVEN GRANDCHILDREN: Zorina Tipton; Aspen, Samantha, Desiree, Hunter, Payton and Olivia Justice; and Elijah, Nolan, Corinna and Ziggy Tipton.

I will sooooo miss Mary even though we were separated by miles. Our memories as kids were great fun. We were BEST friends for years and years, living across the street. We did everything together when we were young, swimming, dancing, diving, camping, fishing, halloween and laughing so hard we wet our pants!! We were inseparable. My thoughts and prayers are with ALL of her family! My tears and my heart will always remember her!
    All my love,
