Mary Sunderland

Mary Kay Sunderland, age 89, of Quincy, IL, died peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2018 in her home. She was born on June 21, 1929 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Dr. John and Emma (Blaesing) Buehner. She first married Francis Holeman. She later married George Sunderland on November 30, 1979. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2009.

Mrs. Sunderland was a graduate of St. Francis Grade School, Quincy Notre Dame High School, and Gem City Business College. Mrs. Sunderland worked at Moorman Manufacturing, the YWCA, and the Area Agency on Aging before her retirement. Mary was of the Catholic Faith.

Mary loved spending time with her family and showing off family photographs to anyone she knew. She enjoyed spending time outside tending to her flowers, taking walks and a good cup of coffee. She also loved her furry feline companion, ‘Tom’.

She is survived by:
FOUR CHILDREN: Janis Dorber and her husband Earl of Lewisville, TX; Pam Sunderland and her husband Terry; Greg Holeman and Diane Pieper, all of Quincy.
THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Holly McNaught, Stacey Sunderland and Paige Jackson (fiancé Alex Wiemelt).
TWIN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Ava & Brennan McNaught.
Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother: Dr. John Buehner along with his wife Beverly and a sister: Betty DelaBar along with her husband Stan.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of the services at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Advocacy Network for Children or to the Quincy Humane Society. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    So very sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. I always looked forward to seeing her every week at the hair salon and she became a good friend as well as a regular customer. Mary was so proud of her family. She always kept me up to date with a picture of the twins or Paige. It has been a blessing for me to know Mary. Sending my deepest sympathy to her family
