Mary R. Prior

Mary R. Prior, age 88, of 1029 South 23rd St., Quincy, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, September 18, 2015. She was born on September 22, 1926 on a farm between St. Patrick and Kahoka, MO. She was the eldest daughter of ten children of Lawrence H. & Catherine M. (Shuman) Schutte. She married James F. Prior on October 23, 1948 in St. Patrick, MO. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1989.

Mrs. Prior attended grade school at St. Patrick and the White School, graduated from St. Patrick High School, and attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL. She was employed at Dayton Dowd (Peerless Pump) and later at Gardner Denver in the cost department. She joined the Quincy Clinic (Quincy Medical Group) in 1956 in the medical records department. She worked there for 50 dedicated years, leaving in May 2006.

Mrs. Prior was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, the Secular Franciscans, St. Vincent de Paul, Ladies of Charity and volunteered at Sunset and St. Vincent’s Home.

FOUR GRANDCHILDREN, Julie Farrell of Providence Village, TX, Michael (Angela) Waterkotte of Coatsburg, IL, Joseph Doran of Lenexa, KS and Patrick Doran of Minneapolis, MN;
FOUR GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, Keira & Declan Farrell of Providence Village, TX and Rebekkah & Charlotte (Charley) Waterkotte of Coatsburg, IL;
TWO BROTHERS, Dennis (Doreen) Schutte of St. Louis, MO and Joe (Mary) Schutte of La Grange, MO;
FOUR SISTER, Rita Burn of Springville, NY, Ruthanna Garrison of St. Louis, MO, Joan (Ted) Rodis of St. Louis, MO and Jane Styczynski of Augusta, MO;
SISTER-IN-LAWS, Hilda Schutte of Macomb, IL, Carmelita Schutte of St. Patrick, MO and Patti Schutte of Kernersville, NC; and a
BROTHER-IN-LAW, Jerry Styczynski of Augusta, MO
Many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her husband, James, and her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Edward, Herbert & Paul Schutte; brother-in-laws Peter Burn & R.F. Garrison and a sister-in-law Alice Duan.

The family would like to thank Unity Point Hospice for their excellent care.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church by Fr. James Wheeler, O.F.M.. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis School, Notre Dame High School or the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry at St. Francis.

    Sorry to hear of your loss. She was such a sweet lady. I brought her rhubarb from our garden for many years and I so enjoyed talking to her.

    My first job out of high school was working for Mary in the medical records at Quincy Clinic in 1971. I am afraid that the other girls and I probably caused Mary alot of grief but I remember many good times also.i have fond memories of working with her. I am sorry for your loss. Prayers for peace during this time of loss.
