Mary M. Sohn, age 95, of Quincy, IL, died on Thursday, November 9, 2017 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 4, 1922 in Edina, MO the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Bruegenhemke) Matticks. She married Emil J. Sohn on August 7, 1943 in Quincy’s St Boniface Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2000.

Mary worked at Motorola, Shellar-Globe and was later a housekeeper for St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Mary loved to sew, play bingo, and was an avid CUBS fan.
She especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and celebrating her July 4th birthday.

Mary is survived by:
A son, Joe (Judy) Sohn along with their child Chris (Todd) Knight; a son, Ed (Barb) Sohn along with their children: Malina Smith; Jim (Carrie) Sohn; Chad (Stevee) Sohn and Tracy (Todd) Keck; a son Roger Sohn; a son Tom Sohn preceded Mary in death, Tom’s children are Dwayne (Heather) Sohn; Tamra (Jeff) Longlett; and Tina (Rory) Tenhouse; a daughter, Doris (Marty) Karhoff along with their children: Andy (Melissa) Davis; Karen (Steven) Hummel Meyers; Marty (Lora) Karhoff and Tim (Kasey) Karhoff;
a daughter, Mary Lou (David) Elsie along with their children: Dave (Holly) Elsie and Jeff (Kelley) Elsie;
a son Tony (Connie) Sohn along with their children: Josh Sohn, Zachary Sohn, Jacob (Lana) Sohn, AJ (Kara) Sohn, Shawn Sohn; a son, Steven (Donna) Sohn along with their children: Lisa (David) Schuckman and Michelle (Bobby) Lewis; a daughter, Alice (Richard Dickinson) Waelder along with their children: Stephanie (EJ) Chandler, Michelle (Nathan) Bozarth, Rosemary Waelder and John Waelder, Jr; a daughter Jane (Robert) Brown along with their child Melissa (Josh) Kiel; a daughter Kate (Kevin) Specht along with their children; Dustin Specht, Paytin Specht and Eastin Specht; and a daughter, Marge (Steve) Hilgenbrink along with their children Cory Hilgenbrink, Adam (Erin) Hilgenbrink and Logan Hilgenbrink.

A brother: Fred Matticks; Sisters: Doris Scott, Jackie (Dan) Gray and Wanda Marczak and a host of many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her parents, her husband Emil, and her son Tom, Mary was also preceded in death by grandchildren: Becky Sohn, Scott Sohn, Dustin Specht and Charles Karhoff; sisters: Ruth Smith along with her husband Woodie; Kate Veach along with her husband JR; Edith McAfee along with her husband Billie; Maxine Coulson and her husband Russell; and Sally Claus along with her husband Bill; a brother Joe Matticks along with his wife Pansy. Daughters-in-law, Phyllis Sohn and Barb Sohn. A Sister-in-law: Evelyn Matticks and a brother-in-law: Roger Marczak.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis School or to the Unity Point Hospice.
