Mary Lu Pray
Mary Lu Pray, age 78, of 3317 Crestview Dr., Quincy, died on Thursday, February 7, 2013 in Blessing Hospital after a lengthy battle with heart disease. She was born on May 11, 1934 in Quincy, a daughter of Louis J. & Helen (Purdum) Genenbacher. She married Floyd Pray on September 26, 1953 in St. Francis Catholic Church.
Mary Lu graduated from Quincy High School and Gem City Business College. She worked as a pharmacy technician, but primarily was a homemaker for her children.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the Third Order of Secular Franciscans. Mary Lu was an avid knitter who created countless afghans for her family & friends. Mary Lu was a fan of the Quincy High School Blue Devils basketball team and NASCAR racing. She loved to travel, always ready to take another ‘road trip’. Mary Lu always looked forward to family gatherings and couldn’t wait until the next time the family could get together.
She is survived by her children, Debra VonderHaar and her husband, James, Nancy Putnam and her husband Richard and John Pray and his wife Tina, all of Quincy; Ten grandchildren, Cory (Brandi) VonderHaar of St. Louis, Courtney VonderHaar of Chicago, Andrew & Alex VonderHaar of Quincy, Megan (Brian) Stone of Quincy, Logan & Levi Putnam of Quincy, Kreagen (Katie) Pray of Quincy, Jessica (Kyle) Eager of Vandenberg AFB, CA, and Austin Pray of Quincy; Two great-grandchildren, Sophia Stone and Jackson Pray; and a brother, Robert (Barbara) Genenbacher of Quincy. Two nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Gauge Michael Eager.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Secular Franciscan service at 5:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospital.
My thoughts and my prayers are with all of you today. I remember my mom and your mom sitting at our kitchen table when we lived next-door. Happy times we all had.
