Mary Lou Welsh

Mary Lou Welsh, age 78, of Liberty, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on May 26, 1941 in Quincy, the daughter of Louis and Hilda (Hendricks) Campbell. Mary married Leon Welsh on November 19, 1960 in St. Brigid Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2019.

Mary Lou was first and foremost, a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. She happily participated in many church events and activities. Her family loved her cooking, her baking, and knowing that at her house, the sweets were always homemade and plentiful. She and Leon traveled on several cruises from Jamaica to Alaska many and ports-in-between. Their trip to Ireland and Scotland was a highlight of their travels.

Mary is survived by her three children: Stephen (Dionne) Welsh of Chesapeake, VA; Lisa (Michael) Berry of Quincy; Michael (Dawn) Welsh of Bunker Hill, IL; grandchildren: Cora Welsh of Chesapeake, VA; Patrick (Maggie Fuchs), Nicholas, Katherine Berry (Shaun Dietrich) all of Quincy; Taylor, Sydney, and Meghan Welsh all of Bunker Hill, IL; her brother: Doug (Cheryl) of Plainville; sisters: Ruth (Raymond) Sheurman of Liberty; Pauline (Johnny) Franks of Liberty. Many brothers and sisters-in-law, beloved nieces and nephews; and her Boston Terrier, Lily also survive.

In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Herbert Campbell, Charles Campbell, Darlene Mintle, Roger Campbell, and a sister in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Brigid Catholic Church. Private interment in St. Brigid Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and Monday afternoon from 1:30-2:00 p.m. in the St. Brigid Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Blessing Hospice, or to St. Brigid’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mary Lou was such fun to be around, church dinners were fun because of her laughter. She will be missed here on earth but welcomed in Heaven by Leon.

Mary and Leon Welsh were the best of neighbors, and we were very fortunate; they were only one hill away. Steve, Lisa, and Mike, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. Did you know your Mom fixed my hair for me for prom? Your parents were just really good people. Love, Pam & Ken Markin
